In the spirit of celebrating, here are the two most recent reasons why I love my little parish.
Reason #588: We got to have a festive little St. Paddy’s Day party after Mass where everyone brought food and all the kids who take fiddle lessons played Irish tunes for us all to dance to. This is where of course, Gus had to say hello to every human in the place before running back and forth across the room a million times like a maniac.
And reason #589: After fighting off a fellow toddler in the middle of Mass for a miniature statue of Our Lady, Gus triumphantly marched across the back of the church holding the thing up like the olympic torch and proudly proclaiming, “Hole-lee Jee-zus! Hole-lee Jee-zus!” (almost right?) loud enough for at least the six pews of people in front of us to hear. Not only did nobody turn around to make me feel like the Worst Mother Ever who can’t control her child, more than one person came up to me with a huge smile on their face afterwards to tell me how awesome my son is and what joy his little outburst brought them. le sigh.
Between that and my family’s afternoon visit for Irish coffee and corned beef and cabbage, it was an absolutely lovely St. Patrick’s Day.
And of course, it wouldn’t be complete without linking up with FLAP for What I Wore Sunday. Cue that awkward backyard pose!
